Write your own

I wonder what my horoscope said yesterday?

I’ll bet it was good. I had a couple of pleasant surprises happen. Three, to be precise.

“Something of great value will be returned to you”

The SATC tape, Season one, Volume one. It has been an ongoing saga for three weeks now, since A’s departure and accidental abduction of Charlotte, Miranda, Samantha and Carrie. The threats from the video store were reaching the boiling point. I was afraid we were going to hit code red: where they come and knock your door down. I was not only going to have to pay the overdue fines, but also replace the whole first season as it was rendered ‘useless’ without that very first tape. A costly misplacement of rental goods, to be sure.

But now, it would seem, things are falling nicely back in to their respective places, much like the stars. Which brings me to my second pleasant surprise:

“You will enjoy an array of culinary delights to go along with the splendid and captivating company you keep this evening”

Not only is he an incredible cook (and grandfather, from what I observed) but the man who is my love’s father taught me a whole lot about him last night.
There are many undeniable similarities between the two, yet each is distinctively different in his own way.

There was the sweet awkward bumbling politeness reminiscent of my & D’s first date. A kind, gentle, generous loving soul, prepared us an amazing feast, all the while looking after his two rambunctious granddaughters. I was treated like a princess. Which is exactly how his son does it as well. So well.

Thirdly:

“An irresistible work related opportunity presents itself; you come highly recommended”

I got an unexpected phone call from my schuh-pladdlin’ pal and gastronomy expert Helmut. He offered me a part time (every 2nd weekend) position for the front of house at the same place I helped out at for the Oktoberfest madness. He has taken over the helm and would like to gather “ein paar gute leute” to help out.

It was such a high energy, positive exchange we had- and going to hang out with gute leute (good people), doing something I swear is in my blood and can’t ever get rid of (oh yeah, and the cutting in half of my grocery bills with all the leftovers I’ll get to take home) is a no brainer. Not to mention the getting to speak German all night, wear my dirndl (I’m SUCH a girly girl) AND earn some extra dough. Sign me up!

I. AM. A REDHEAD.

Wheeee! I’m on top of the world. They should bottle this stuff and sell it. Not sure if it’s the new ‘do, the red hot valentine’s date last night, or the fact that it’s Friday but I feel great today.

Even though I have to work tomorrow (it’s only 10-3, and I have the place to myself), life is good. This feeling has eluded me for quite some time now; it’s so nice to finally bask in its gloriousness once again.

The choice of colour wasn’t really a choice, he has been wanting to turn me red for quite some time now. It was just a matter of sitting down and saying ‘do what you want’ and boom! I’m a cross between Lucille Ball and Run Lola Run! Bye bye Blondie.
Hello first day of the rest of my life.

Love Quotables

Hello Lovelies!

Happy Valentine’s Day! I have written out some thoughts that some folks have had about Love (copied from a little book fittingly given to me by one of the people I love most, Kim) and thought it a lovely way to share some of that emotion today.

I have one request: please leave a comment/send an email to me and let me know which one(s) is/are your favorites or add some of your own favorites.. I like # 1 & 9.

Go forth and love one another!

Hugs,

SG

Queer eye for THIS straight girl

Every girl needs a gay man in her life.

I have C, and I love him to bits. What other person can you have to do your hair and make up, give you fashion advice, go shopping with and not have a jealous boyfriend when he sleeps in your bed?

C & I met last year while I was working at a hotel helping a friend out who had just taken over the catering/event planning there. I lost track of him for a few months, but he resurfaced just in time to accompany me & the girls to ladies night at the cowboy bar. I had won a limo package for me and 7 friends, and the limo driver begrudgingly let C come along, although it wasn’t ‘officially’ allowed. I also had to get permission from the manager at the bar so he could sit with us in the curtained off section where the ‘action’ was going on. Free apps and drinks amidst sex toys and massage lotions for sale- he fit right in!

Currently he is in the process of moving to town and is camping out on my living room floor. My country mouse has found hisself a job in the big city, and endeavors to take over my lease in the basement when I move onwards and upwards at the end of the month. I’d have put him in the spare room, but at the moment all of my paperwork and combined contents of 3 or 4 junk drawers are inhabiting the space. Waiting for the right combination of free time and inspiration for me to sort through and organize. Baby steps!

His company has been very welcome this week, and it’s certainly nice to have someone cook, do the dishes, and deliver oreos to me on the couch. His usefulness knows no bounds- the boy actually found 5 channels on my tv the other day (I never turn the darned thing on) when he was home alone and bored. Can you imagine the squeal of delight he let forth upon discovering that ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’ was on? It was sweet. And so is he. The End.

Moving up in the World

There’s really no other place to go when you live in a basement suite is there?

Over 8 months I have been held captive down here, since the lease-and-heart-breaker known as my ex b-friend and I split.

So conveniently located within walking distance of the institution of higher learning His Flakiness had ‘planned’ on attending.

Our house, in the middle of our street, is quite charming. Out of the 50’s it must be, quite the square box of a thing. The lovingly renovated downstairs has not served too terribly badly as my humble abode these past months.

It’s more the unfortunate forced company I was made to keep (had to get a roommate to help with rent), and the general lack of light that hindered me from fully enjoying my time here.

Outright avoidance is what it actually turned into in the last weeks and days of A & I’s shared living experience. I once drove down the alley, saw his car parked out back and kept driving to the local Starbucks to enjoy my tea and book in peace. My peace loving Veggie sensibilities were constantly offended by his cooking and consuming large amounts of red meat and enjoyment of violent movies.

It was a clash in lifestyles and a somewhat cramped space that didn’t quite accommodate our collective possessions. Most of his were stored in the tiny garage, already populated by the landlord’s perfectly restored orange ’74 Volkswagen Beatle.

After being late paying his share of the rent 4 out of the 5 months he lived there, my angelic (albeit stupiodic – new word) patience had finally run out. I’m usually a “you get 2 chances and that’s it!” kinda girl, and it was time for self preservation mode to kick in. Sorely overdue. But how can you kick a poor dude who just graduated and was struggling to start his own business out- especially around Christmas time?? Especially one who came out to watch my soccer game and didn’t complain when we roped him into being linesman?

Sod it! The bugger had to get out! (Why is it so much fun sometimes just to go British?)
Anyhoo, long story short, A left, the upstairs is becoming vacant next week; I have had it living underground and have decided to seize this opportunity by the horns.

$100 more a month (assuming I have a solid new roomie in place in 3 weeks) for more light, more space, hardwood throughout AND a dishwasher? Not to mention all of the cute/quirky details- original ceilings, door archways and mantle. How cool is that?

So I have solidified myself a flat mate (sorry, had to!) and on the 1st day of the next blessed month I will officially be an above ground dweller! Along with one of my brothers-from-another-mother, R. No fooling, I bonded with this guy immediately and magically upon meeting him. Don’t know why I should be at all surprised, as I met him through his current roomie, my Kitty Kat (and soul mate from another life). Bottom Line: Gotta keep the family together!

Can’t wait till my “I don’t live in the bloody basement anymore Party!”
Cheers to that!

The Trip

Let me take you to my secret place
No one but strangers can come
Tucked in down deep
Let yourself become enveloped in the darkness
The scent like waves washes over you
You become too tired to stay awake
Let go, trust me
I want to hold you while you dream
And be there when you wake
So you can tell me where you've been

I really like my horoscope this month

Generally speaking, this will be a great year for you. This month is no exception. In love, make sure that trust is the glue between you and your guy. You are inspired by an idea whose time will come. Develop your concept, learn what you need to and you will fly away on the wings of your brilliance.
